Guided trail runs

Are you based in, or visiting, the Nottinghamshire / Lincolnshire area? Are you keen to try trail running but unsure of where to run? Do you lack the confidence to venture off-road on your own? Would you like to have the support of running with a local, knowledgeable runner and coach who can show you a variety of interesting routes? Mud and miles offers daytime and evening guided trail runs all year round, including by torchlight in the autumn and winter months! All Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening runs are approximately 4 to 5 miles / 6 to 8K in length and take about an hour; they are suitable for runners of all abilities - no-one will be left behind! Our Sunday runs are longer in both time and distance - see individual runs for more details..

Meet at 7pm by the Belvoir Castle car park

Our next Sunday morning guided trail run is:

Sunday 11th June - Hough-on-the-hill run (approx 8 to 10 miles / 2 to 2 1/2 hours)

Meet at 10am  outside the Brownlow Arms, Hough-on-the-Hill, NG32 2AZ (please park in the street and not the pub car park)

£10 per person


Sunday 2nd July - Robin Hood Way run (approx 8 to 10 miles / 2 to 2 1/2 hours)
Meet at 10am  in the Southwell Trail car park, Kirklington NG22 8NJ (on the road from Kirklington to Edingley)
£10 per person

Mud and miles can also offer private guided runs for adults at a cost of £30 per hour for a group of up to 4 adults, and £50 per hour for up to 10 adults.

Frequently asked questions:

What are the runs like?
A variety of runs are offered - some are flat, some undulating and some may have a hill or two thrown in. Some may have a particular point of interest and some might be just about enjoying the beautiful scenery in the evening sunshine. All are mainly off road, on footpaths across fields, trails through woods or alongside water of some kind. Weekday runs are usually between 5K and 8K long, with Sunday runs longer. Some are out-and-back runs along the same route, others are a loop. You can find out more about each individual run in the programme above.

I'm not a quick runner - will I get left behind or lost?
No! Guided runs are not races - they are about showcasing routes, so running speed is not important at all. These runs will be ideal for beginners. There will be frequent stops to look at the view, take photos, tie your laces, and catch your breath.  Mud and miles knows the routes well and will also provide you with a map.

What should I wear and bring?
Wear whatever you would normally run in! Unless there has been a recent torrential downpour, road running shoes will be fine. If it's warm and sunny, bring a drink; if it's cooler, you might want to bring  something warmer to wear as there will be times when we stop to regroup. If it is raining, we'll still go, so bring a waterproof top of some kind. If it is a torchlight run, please bring a headtorch. If coming on a Sunday run, bring something to eat and drink.


Can I bring my children along?

Teenagers are welcome if running with a parent. If you would like to run with younger children , please come to one of our family runs.


Do I need to book and pay in advance?

Yes please! You can book and pay online right up to the last minute.


How much does it cost?
£3.00 per adult per guided run on weekdays, and £10 per adult on Sunday runs. This includes a map of the run route to take home and the services of a qualified and experienced trail running coach - hopefully you will pick up some navigation skills and running tips along the way!
